Carl Hayman leaves mark as Hastie flies in

ALAN Tait has added Scotland and Edinburgh video analyst Martin Hastie to his Newcastle Falcons backroom staff.
Adding scope to the work already undertaken by performance analyst John Stokoe, Falcons head coach Tait has recruited Hastie to beef up the Kingston Park video work.
Admitting the Falcons did not commit enough resources to the vital but onerous task of opposition video scrutiny last season, new boss Tait said he considers Hastie a crucial addition.
Outgoing Falcons captain Carl Hayman took it upon himself to compile a detailed and thorough report on the campaign just completed that he presented to Tait in his final act before leaving Kingston Park for Toulon.
The All Black powerhouse prop included canvassed opinion from the entire Falcons squad, and Tait told the Journal a section of the report focused on video work.
Hayman was of the clear mind Newcastle ought to extend their emphasis in the area, and Tait was pleased to have his own personal concerns similarly addressed by the well-respected scrummage king.
“The analysis side of things was a big part of Carl’s report,” explained Tait, “and that tallied in with my feelings that we needed to bolster that area of our work.
“We weren’t doing enough of this work last year, and with the planned increase there would definitely have been far too much work for one man.
“So Marty will work with John Stokoe and the pair of them will certainly be giving the players more to scrutinise than last year.
