STEVE Bates believes Newcastle Falcons’ vision of the future has been vindicated after Rob Vickers and Alex Tait took the number of players to sign new deals at Kingston Park this week to four.
Under-20 World Cup finalist Tait and England Saxon Vickers followed the lead of Micky Ward and Chris Pilgrim in committing their future to the Premiership club.
Having shed a host of England stars in the last couple of years – including Tait’s brother Mathew – and with doubts over captain Carl Hayman’s future, the latest signings are welcome news.
“Rob and Alex are both key contract renewals for us, and evidence that our top players are backing the ambition being shown by the club as we prepare for next season,” said director of rugby Bates.
“Both players are key to the ambitious plans we have here at the Falcons, and the fact they are committed to the club gives us a great foundation on which we can build as we continue our recruitment and retention plans for 2010-11.”
Twenty-eight-year-old hooker Vickers, who made his Saxons debut against Italy this season, has signed for a further two years.
He has three tries from 24 Falcons appearances this season
