Thunder steeled for tough challenge

STEVE McCormack has steeled his Gateshead Thunder players for one of their toughest tests this season.
Telling his men to get points from every game between now and the end of the season, Thunder head coach McCormack said Sunday’s trip to Featherstone Rovers will be even harder than last week’s Halifax tie.
Thunder saw off Championship leaders Halifax 34-28 at Gateshead Stadium last weekend, and now McCormack wants his men to make it three straight wins at Chris Moyles Stadium (kick-off 3.00).
Expecting to have to go toe-to-toe with one of the league’s most physically confrontational sides, McCormack said his men are in good spirits after their wins over Leigh and then Halifax.
“It is a really intimidating place to go,” said McCormack, “and they are a very good side – one of the toughest we will face this season.
“Rather than worry about that or let it affect us, I want our lads to enjoy every minute of it.
“They must enjoy the pressure of the situation, and they must enjoy the pressure the vocal home crowd will try to put on them.
“It is one of the best places to play Rugby League is Featherstone, it is a great ground, they have great support and they are a very good side.
“Some people say it is not the nicest place to go but I disagree. I like taking teams there, and I like the challenge whch always comes when you travel there and take them on.
