TYNEDALE paid the penalty against Esher on Saturday as referee Wayne Falla decided the outcome of their National One encounter.
The man in the middle blew for an 80th-minute penalty try to hand the visitors a 29-26 victory on a day of frustration in Corbridge.
Falla had already awarded an earlier penalty try and shown home lock Graeme Dunn a straight red for a tip tackle, Tynedale having led 12-10 at the 40-minute mark after tries from Hamish Smales and Peter Moralee.
Back-row pair Sam Reynolds and Ollie Steadman added further five-pointers for the home outfit, who took away a pair of bonus points.
However, with Ben Frankland in the sin-bin late on, the 13-man side conceded a try to ex-Toulon and Saracens lock Kris Chesney before the second penalty try sealed the deal.
Blaydon remain level on points with second-placed Rosslyn Park at the other end of the table ahead of the Londoners’ visit to Crow Trees this Saturday.
Micky Ward’s men were 17-8 winners at mid-table Coventry, second-half tries from Chris Wearmouth and Andrew Baggett helping them back from an 8-3 interval deficit.
In National Two North, Westoe remain four points adrift of safety following a 20-19 home loss to Otley.
The early departure of Samoan international Lome Fa’atau with injury did them no favours as they fell 17-0 behind.
Even tries from Ryan Beattie, Scott Powell and Gareth Nesbit were not enough to claim anything other than a losing bonus point.
Darlington Mowden Park leapfrogged Preston Grasshoppers into third place with a 31-12 triumph at Sheffield Tigers - scrum-half Jack Neville with a hat-trick of tries and Rory Duff adding the other.
Percy Park’s 21-13 home loss to Bradford and Bingley saw them slip to fourth in National Three North, while West Hartlepool’s 25-14 defeat at Lymm has them deep in relegation trouble.
Darlington gave themselves a fighting chance of staying afloat in North One East following their 26-22 victory at fellow strugglers Middlesbrough, and in Durham and Northumberland Two second-bottom Prudhoe and Stocksfield recorded a 14-13 win at Novos.
