Durham v Yorkshire: Day one toss

DURHAM lost a crucial toss on the first morning of their County Championship game at home to Yorkshire this morning.

It gave the visitors the chance to bowl first on what is expected to be a bowler-friendly pitch in overcast conditions, and also allowed them to make the most of a difficult situation regarding Tim Bresnan.

The new-ball bowler is available to Yorkshire today, but has told he must head to London tomorrow in case he is needed as cover by England in their Test match against Pakistan at The Oval. If he is not, he will be allowed to return as soon as the teams toss up on Wednesday.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby is the man elected to take Bresnan's place while he is away.

Durham named a team for the conditions, replacing leg-spinner Scott Borthwick with medium-fast bowler Chris Rushworth in an otherwise unchanged team.

DURHAM: Di Venuto, Stoneman, Muchall, Benkenstein, Blackwell, Stokes, Mustard (wk, c), Plunkett, Claydon, S Harmison, Rushworth.

YORKSHIRE: Lyth, Rudolph, McGrath, Gale (c), Bairstow, Brophy (wk), Bresnan*, Rashid, Pyrah, Shahzad, Patterson.

*Hannon-Dalby is the nominated substitute to replace Bresnan when on England duty.

Umpires: Barry Duddlestone and Nigel Cowley.
