Worcs v Durham: Day Three close

WORCESTERSHIRE need another 237 runs tomorrow to finish their County Championship season with an innings victory.

The hosts are already one wicket down as they attempt to deny Durham the victory they are so keen to finish with.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the undoubted star of the day, claiming the sixth double hundred of his career and his first for the Riversiders in what could be his farewell appearance.

Having disappeared into his shell as it approached, Chanderpaul suddenly and unexpectedly emerged to try and bring the landmark up in the grand manner. His shot over long-off fell just short of the rope, but took him to 201.

One hundred of those runs came in boundaries.

It brought an end his near eight-and-a-half-hour innings as Will Smith declared with his team on 634-8, their third highest total of all time.

Mitchell Claydon was caught behind for 10 two balls after Chanderpaul had run a single to bring up the team's 600. Mark Davies replaced him at the crease to shepherd the West Indian to his milestone.

Stephen Harmison did not bat, or take the new ball, though he did field. The Ashington Express was limping heavily at the end of day one, when he did not take the second new ball.

Ian Blackwell was introduced after eight overs and took the only Worcestershire wicket of the day. Stephen Moore padded up to the slow left-armer and was lbw. It left his side 41-1 at the end.
