Cubans in the ring

It looks as though the crack Cubans will be fighting at Gateshead Leisure Centre on June 4.

Organiser Glenn McCrory is in discussions with Gateshead Council about putting on his big show against a Northumbria Select.

And the tribute dinner for three-time Olympic heavyweight champion Teofilo Stevenson, who is coming over as part of the Cuban party, is likely to be held at the Civic Centre in Newcastle the following night.

Confirmation is expected shortly, with McCrory saying: "The amount of work is massive but we're getting there.

"We want both dates to be extra special."
