`Rocky' comes out fighting

Gateshead's Leam Lane club believe they might have a Rocky on their hands!

He's Rob Wishart who at the very late age of 32 is in his first season of amateur boxing but has stopped his first two opponents inside two rounds.

"Honesty, he's just like Rocky in the films," said coach Tony Reed. "Rob is one of the fittest people in the gym at any level and from the moment the bell rings he never stops throwing punches.

"The only way we can see him being beaten is by a knockout because he goes forward the whole fight."

Leam Lane are hoping to get Wishart matched on their next home show with at least four other boxers making their debuts to share billing with experienced North East champions Geoffrey Mullholland, Jamie Urwin and Michael McGiven.

The show is on Thursday, March 8, at Felling Social Club with an evening of boxing including a three-course dinner.

Tickets can be obtained by phoning Brian Skipsey on 07766 500216.
