Newcastle Diamonds announce quota for next year

NEWCASTLE Diamonds have a full septet for the 2012 season with the final member of the team being announced at the club’s Christmas party.

Unveiled was 21-year-old Swede, Ludvig Lindgren who ended the 2011 season with close local rivals, the Berwick Bandits where he had become a major favourite with the Border crowd.

“Ludvig is the younger brother of Grand Prix superstar Freddie Lindgren, and has already represented his country at U21 level!” explained a delighted Darryl Illingworth.

“He spent two years racing against the very best riders in the world every week in the Elite League with Wolverhampton, and we consider ourselves pretty fortunate to have obtained his agreement to line up at Brough Park in time for the 2012 season.

“He joined Berwick in July as injury cover, but far from just filling a gap he certainly shone brightly and scored a fine seven points on his first meeting at our Tyneside track in October including an impressive win in Heat Eight over our then skipper Derek Sneddon.

“Ludvig slots perfectly into our side and adds a good deal of points scoring power to what is already a team bristling with potential from the vast experience of Mark Lemon, Stuart Robson and Christian Henry plus the exciting youthful enthusiasm of the Worrall twins, Richie and Steve and Dane Claes Nedermark.”

The younger of the racing brothers linked with Wolverhampton late in the 2008 season, appearing in just eight official meetings for the Black Country club.

A switch to the Premier League for 2009 saw him complete his first full British term in the colours of Birmingham, for whom he enjoyed a solid campaign to post a real-time average of close on seven points per match.

Lindgren had agreed a Polish League contract, which would make him unavailable for the Brummies’ Sunday fixtures. Birmingham stressed, however, that he would remain an asset of the club.

At the end of November, it was announced he would be linking with his elder sibling, Fredrik, at Wolverhampton for a full term of top-flight racing in 2010.

And he was to produce some eye-catching performances as he maintained an average of over 5 points a match, none more so than at Swindon on September 2nd, when he superbly amassed 13+3 points.

The season’s statistical run-down gave Lindgren a tally of 206 points from forty-one matches in Wolverhampton’s black and gold colours, which yielded a an average of 5.26.
