NEWCASTLE Diamonds have again presented their Tyneside speedway faithful with another superb early Christmas present with the announcement – made last night – that all-action Sunderland-born racer Stuart Robson has signed on the dotted line for the 2012 season.
Diamonds co-promoter George English was a very satisfied team manager with the club’s latest catch for next year, and said: “We were thrilled when we had the chance to take on Stuart again for next season and I’m sure the fans will be just as satisfied with the news.
“Stu has always been a real thriller in the saddle and his inclusion in any team really increases the level of excitement and entertainment as he has such a breath-taking style of racing that has the supporters on the edge of their seats every time he takes to the track.
“Many of the fans had dropped some pretty major hints that they would be overjoyed to have him back with us for next season and we’re just delighted to have been able to deliver the goods and can’t wait to see this local lad raise the roof again come March 2012.”
Robson returns to the Diamonds fold, a side he’s enjoyed two spells with and made his career debut for back in 1993.
And he rekindles his excellent racing relationship with fellow returnees Mark Lemon, the veteran Australian and the impressive young Richie Worrall, both of whom were vital cogs in the 2011 Diamonds’ machine as well as Worrall’s twin brother Stevie who signed last week to partner his brother in the reserve births.
With only three more places to fill this winter, the 2012 Diamonds are looking in good shape so far with the early fixtures now revealed as their traditional opening Tyne-Tweed Trophy, the challenge cup against the Berwick Bandits.
The first leg confirmed at Brough Park on Sunday, March 18 (6.30pm) and the deciding leg at Shielfield Park on Saturday, March 24 at 7pm.
