Teen star Chrissy Rouse ready to take plunge

TEENAGER Chrissy Rouse will tackle the 2011 British 125GP Championship after signing a deal with Northumberland’s only motorcycle racing team.

The 15-year-old from Burnopfield, County Durham, will join Alnwick-based SGR Racing to spearhead the squad’s assault on the championship, regarded as one of the world’s premier proving grounds for the stars of the future.

This season, Rouse dominated the Thundersport GB Aprilia Superteen Championship, taking the title by an impressive 127 points in October.

The Emmanuel College pupil had taken five poles from 10 rounds, 14 wins and finished on the podium in all but two of the races he completed, to take the title with relative ease.

Now he is excited at the prospect of moving up to the British Championship, which runs as part of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, when it kicks off at Easter at Brands Hatch.

“I can’t wait, I’m so excited now I’ve sorted a ride for next season,” he told The Journal. “After winning the Superteen Championship in October I knew I wanted to move up to the British 125s and someone recommended SGR to me. I’m thrilled to have managed to sew up a ride with a team like this, especially before Christmas.

“It means I can now concentrate on working out and getting my fitness up so we can begin a testing programme in the New Year. The season starts pretty late this year so it gives us plenty of time to get fully up to speed.”
