Workington Comets moved into second place in the Premier League table when they gathered an aggregate point against the wasps.

But Newport, who won by nine points on their own track, were in contention only six points behind on the night after 11 heats.

Workington finished strongly to collect three heat maximums in the last four races with Carl Stonehewer collecting a five ride maximum, while James Wright scored a paid maximum.

Bottom of the table Berwick Bandits last night registered their first win of the season in 10 outings in the Premier League as they stormed to a four-point win over Newcastle Diamonds at Shielfield Park.

Berwick trailed with six heats to go until injuries to Adam McKinna, Ross Brady and Christian Henry cost the visitors dearly.

The Bandits new No 1 rider 27-year-old Pole Sebastian Truminski, marked his debut with nine points, while David Meldrum top scored for the home side with 11 points from five races.
