Lambton victory for Gary Moore

GARY Moore of North Shields Poly won yesterday’s inaugural Lambton Run in the grounds of the Lambton Estate.

A last-minute adjustment to the multi-terrain course meant competitors covered a distance slightly short of the 10km.

Moore, now in the Over 40 category, came home 32secs ahead of Aberystwyth’s Mark Smith with Patrick Duffy of Crook, finishing in third place.

Sunderland’s Michelle Holt won the Womens’ race finishing in eighth place in the field of 286 runners.

Exactly a minute behind was Durham’s Aiveen Fox with another Sunderland athlete Hayley Reed finishing third.

Chester-le-Street athletes Matt Tomlinson and Angela Hunter were successful in the supporting 5km race. Proceeds from the event went to the Rainbow Trust and Willow Burn Hospice.

:: GATESHEAD Harriers won their first Northern Athletics League match of the season at Clairville Stadium, Middlesbrough on Saturday.

With no National League matches taking place, several of their first team athletes were competing including Richard Kilty who gained a sprint double and ran the final leg of the successful 4 x 100m Relay team. Emma Pringle won the High Jump, Triple Jump and Shot, while Stacey Smith ran the last leg of the 4 x 400m Relay.

Middlesbrough Mandale finished third and their best performer was Ade Babatunde who won the Long Jump and Triple Jump.

The Division 4 match at Jarrow saw Morpeth finished second to Scarborough. Jon Taylor made his debut in the 3000m Steeplechase, winning in 8mins 56.4secs. Richmond & Zetland won their Division 4 match at Shildon.
