Blaydon runner cruises to race win

BRISTOL’S Phil Wylie was an easy winner of yesterday’s Ray Harrison Memorial 10km Road Race at Billingham.

In the warm but windy conditions, Wylie, who is a second claim runner for Blaydon, was joined by Morpeth’s Nick Swinburn in the early stages, before dropping his rival shortly after the 3km point.

Wylie’s margin of victory was nearly two mins over Swinburn, with Billingham’s Andy Chadfield finishing strongly to take third place.

Hartlepool veteran, Tracey Waller won the women’s race, ahead of Louise Noble of Sunderland Strollers.

Middlesbrough Junior, Kristina Grant finished in third place.

The Tyneside club took second place behind League winners Sheffield, and moved up from sixth to fourth position, overall.
