Gateshead Harriers finish in third place

GATESHEAD Harriers finished third behind strong Edinburgh and Glasgow squads at yesterday's third National Junior League Premier Division match at the International Stadium.
The Gateshead womens' team won the 4x400m relay breaking the club record by one second.
Gateshead led all the way, with legs from Emma Masson (58.9), Steph Bruce (59.7), Steph Loraine (61.3) and Rebecca Ferguson (57.5).
Morpeth Harrier Nick Swinburn easily won yesterday's fifth Beamish Tram Challenge 10km, held in hot conditions on a very tough course.
Swinburn, also successful in 2007 and 2008, soon headed the field, leading affter the first loop on the Tram route, and taking a separate prize for this achievement.
Crook's Patrick Duffy took second place ahead of the Sunderland pair of Steven Duffy and Paul Redman, who was the leading veteran. Sunderland won the team event. Fran Little won the women’s race ahead of Birtley's Sue Ramage.
