Batochir makes victory look so easy

MONGOLIAN Serod Batochir strode to an easy victory in yesterday’s 3M Aycliffe 10km road race.
In ideal conditions, the Morpeth Harrier broke away from the leading group of seven runners on the second of the three laps. The margin of victory was 43 seconds over James Bulman of North York Moors.
Bulman’s clubmate Paul Lowe came with a late run to snatch third place from Terry Wall of Morpeth (winner from 2003-2007). Durham’s Rob Hand was the leading veteran in 10th.
Carolyn Summersgill of Middles-brough repeated her 2009 victory in the women’s race, finishing in 16th overall, in a record field of 374 runners. Aiveen Fox of Morpeth (winner in 2005 and 2006) was second ahead of Marie Stansmore of North Yorks Moors.
l THE region collected six gold medals at this weekend’s Northern Athletics Championships at Sports City, Manchester.
Gateshead’s Richard Kilty retained his title in the senior 100m and clubmate Joseph Kibirige won the Under-20 100m.
Nisha Desai of Trafford won the women’s 400m hurdles for the second succesive year. She also finished second in the 400m in a personal best outdoor time. Nick Phelps of Middlesbrough took the Under-20 400m hurdles title.
Gateshead’s Emma Pringle won the Under-20 women’s triple jump and clubmate Sally Scott won the senior pole vault.
Gateshead’s Ian Burns finished third in a good quality javelin competition, throwing a personal best distance.
