GATESHEAD’S Richard Kilty opened his summer season, breaking the unofficial British junior record for the 150m at the Start Fitness North Eastern League fixture at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, writes LES VENMORE.
However, in the absence of electronic timing and a wind reading, the performance by the English Schools 100m champion is unlikely to be ratified. Kilty later won the 300m.
Morpeth’s Laura Weightman, current English Schools Intermediate champion, moved into the under-20 group to clock a personal best in the 1,500m, taking three seconds off her previous figures.
Middlesbrough Mandale’s strength in sprinting events saw them win yesterday’s opening fixture of the National Young Athletics League at a damp Monkton Stadium. In the second match, Lincoln Wellington proved too strong for the local clubs.
