Juul frustrated by 'weak spots'

NEWCASTLE Diamonds had been warned prior to yesterday afternoon’s clash at the Glasgow Tigers that a vast improvement had to be seen – or they would suffer the consequences.
In the main, most of the side responded well, and within the first 10 heats the visiting Tynesiders held the Tigers well, only trailing by four points with the score resting at 32-28 courtesy of some good solid racing from most of the Newcastle riders.
Derek Sneddon was in blistering form, taking two very fine wins in heats five – from the gate – and eight where he was left standing at the gate by Ross Brady, but hunted the Tiger down and forced his way round him on the last bend of the race to win a superb three points.
Kenni Larsen and Jason King took a race win each and five vital seconds between them, but the tail-enders, including a desperately disappointing performance from number one Steve Boxall with only one point to his name, left the overall side with too much to do.
Glasgow hit hard in the final five races, and took four maximum 5-1s to negate all the good work done by Newcastle in the first 10 heats and presented a perhaps flattering win of 20 points.
Newcastle team manager Richard Juul was still a frustrated man.
“Some of the team really got their acts together up here today, and good on them for doing so, but there’s just too many weak spots at the moment as the home return match could be make or break as we will not tolerate under-par performances or allow them to damage any more of our season,” he said.
“It’s only the beginning, but it’s a vital time of the year and we must perform better.”
Glasgow are the visitors to the Newcastle Stadium this evening at 6.30pm, both in the return Premier Trophy fixtures from the weekend action.
