Newburn Judo Club took five golds, seven silvers and six bronze medals at a British Judo Council-organised tournament at Chester-le Street's Hermitage School.
More than 140 competitors aged between seven and 19 took part.
Coach Joe Laws said: "This was a very good event to introduce our newer members to competitive and contest judo.
"The atmosphere was less pressurized than national events and I am very pleased with the performances of my team."
The club just lost out on gaining the team trophy, which went to the host club Kyu Shin Do Ryu of Chester-le-Street.
Washington Judo Club claimed two silver and two bronze medals at the Northern Ireland Open Championships at Belfast's Queens University.
Andrew Stephenson and Dominique McEwan took the silvers with Catherine Martin and Kate McDermott celebrating bronzes.
