THE Warriors edged an overtime thriller against Dundee at Hillheads last night, gaining a vital victory over their potential Northern League play-off semi-final opponents with a controversial winner on 63 minutes.
Michael Allinson gave Whitley the perfect start with a goal after just 65 seconds, and Daniel Murdy doubled their advantage when he finished off an excellent home move with a close-range strike at 14.21.
However, a powerplay blast from the blueline by Stars’ Willie Nicholson pulled one back before the break.
John Haig then scored a 24th-minute equaliser for the visitors, but player-coach Andrew Carter ensured Whitley were in front at the second break when he netted at 28.44.
Dundee dominated the final session and John Dolan levelled the game with six minutes remaining to send the teams into sudden death overtime.
The Warriors then snatched victory on 63 minutes when Mark Good scrambled the puck home, much to the displeasure of the visitors’ bench.
Whitley scorers: Allinson and M Good 1+1, Carter and D Murdy 1+0, Salem, Howey, Culley and Dunn 0+1.
