THE Warriors kept up their English National League title challenge on track with a 17-0 thrashing of Bradford, player-coach Karl Culley grabbing his 500th point for the club when he netted the seventh goal at 24.23.
However, the game was marred by an injury to Bradford’s Michael Fletcher when he collided with the barrier late in the final period. Paramedics had to take him off the ice on a stretcher.
Sixteen-year-old Nathan Salem – son of former Whitley and Durham goalie Chris Salem – took the Warriors’ man-of-the-match award after netting four of the home goals. Bryan Dunn grabbed a hat-trick, while the Good brothers (Mark and DJ), along with Culley, netted two as the home side scored almost at will.
WHITLEY WARRIORS: Salem 4+0, Dunn 3+2, M Good 2+3, Culley and D Good 2+1, Carter and Mole 1+2, Howey 1+1, Hendry and D Murdy 0+4, Barratt, Tindale and Leach 0+2, P Zajac 0+1.
