Whitley Warriors 6, Dundee Stars 8

THE Warriors went down in a thrilling Northern League game at Hillheads last night, with the difference between the two sides the four-goal performance of Dundee’s John Dolan.

Although the Warriors had the benefit of a goal from DJ Good inside the opening two minutes, it was Dundee who led at the first break after Dolan equalised almost immediately and Liam Greig put them ahead with a 15th minute powerplay goal.

Greg then added a second with the man advantage at 27.39 and things looked bleak for Whitley when Gordon Latto made it 4-1 a couple of minutes later.

However, Bryan Dunn gave the home side some hope with a clever finish at 32.43 and Danielle Murdy pulled a further goal back.

And even though Dolan grabbed his second at 38.22, Dale Howie kept the Warriors in touch with his first goal of the season. In the final period Dunn drew them level when he converted a penalty shot and Murdy forced the puck home.

But John Dolan netted a power play equaliser and broke Whitley hearts when he put the Stars ahead with 49 seconds remaining.

Sam McLuskey then hit an empty net goal moments from the end after the Warriors were forced to withdraw their netminder in search of an equaliser.
