Gosforth Park meeting set to go down a storm

WE ARE looking forward to a bumper eight-race card at Gosforth Park tomorrow with the going soft and no problems to report – despite the stormy weather which has battered the region.

The first, the S V Rutters Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, gets underway at 11.50 with Durham trainer Chris Grant’s Micro Mission set to carry top weight.

In the 12.50 MGM Precision Handicap Hurdle, Brian Elison’s Stormy Weather could be an apt choice.

However Surprise Vendor and Nelson Du Ronceray might also be worth a look.

The 1.25 Digibet Handicap Race looks like it could be competitive.

Lucinda Russell has two entries with Bear Dancing and Quinder Spring, which could go well along with a number of others including Blazing Diva.

In the 2.25pm Newcastle Flooring Handicap Hurdle, Rayson Nixon’s Political Paddy might fancy his chances.

At the time of writing there are more than 110 entries on the slate and we are looking forward to a great day’s racing.

Elsewhere, champion Jockey Tony McCoy broke several ribs in a fall at Taunton last week and unsurprisingly has not been riding out this week. Although 300 winners for the season may now be a real stretch, he is still odds on for the title again and will be back riding winners very soon.

There is also decent action at Sandown tomorrow.

In the 2.35 32Red Hurdle Novices’ Hurdle, Prospect Wells, trained by Paul Nicholls and due to be ridden by Ruby Walsh, could very well be there or thereabouts.

At the British Horseracing Authority, a new man comes into the saddle this month.

Paul Bittar becomes the new chief executive, having previously been head of strategy for Racing Victoria in Australia.
