Inside track: Winners tricky to find in big field
May 22 2009 The Journal
In the first race, a 6f Maiden, there is an interesting horse from Newmarket trained by David Simcock called Arabian Pride. Added interest is the booking of Jamie Spencer. Neither the trainer nor jockey are regular visitors up here and the fact they have declared to run is interesting enough and therefore worth a look.
In the second race, a 1m4f Maiden, there are three interesting travellers up from the South. Harry Dunlop brings up Bagbe, the yard’s first runner since bagging the ‘Hoppings’ Listed Fillies Stakes last year with 33/1 Classic Remark. Bagber, a decent fourth at Windsor last time out, will be up against stiff opposition in Othology (mount of Jamie Spencer) and Final Victory from the in-form Andrew Balding yard, but is fancied to run well providing the ground does not come up too soft.
Moscow Oznick runs in the last for a syndicate of Newcastle United footballers headed by Michael Owen. Let’s all hope this Nicky Vaughan trained and Jamie Spencer-ridden horse wins and sees the Alan Shearer-managed team mirror that at Aston Villa on Sunday to secure a future in the 2010 Premier League. Gates open at noon, come along for an action packed day of racing.
James Armstrong is clerk of the course at Gosforth Park.
