A FIVE-and-a-half-hour journey paid off for County Durham sports horse breeder Billy Moran and his three-year-old in hand brown hunter gelding, Look North, as they took a Bucks County Show Cuddy qualifier.
And they will again take centre stage at Birmingham’s Horse of the Year Show next month.
In the Bucks County three-year-old hunter class, Look North was not the favourite but at the last moment the judge had second thoughts and decided to give top placing to Moran. Later, Look North took the Younger Hunter Championship to Dorset-based Ann Bassett’s two-year-old home bred in hand, Right As Rain, by their own TB stallion Roviris.
Again one step ahead, Look North won the Cuddy qualifier to Reserve Ann Bassett’s Hunter Brood Mare Champion Whose That Lady.
It has perhaps been a year of near misses for Look North with six attempts at the Cuddy qualifier resulting in two Reserves at the Scottish and Northern Horse Shows and a final Bucks County qualification.
He also has a Cheshire County on his CV.
