WEATHERSTAFF came out worst in a triple photo-finish to a Group Three prize at Kempton, but the winner is very progressive and the runner-up is also clearly on the upgrade, so he lost little in defeat. Physically, he has scope for further improvement and he should soon regain the winning thread.

Gelded since last year, KEENES DAY looked unlucky on his second run back at Kempton when third to Precision Break. Having lost his pitch at a crucial stage, he then had traffic problems as he tried to get on terms. He was closing fast at the finish and compensation awaits.

On the evidence of his latest offering at Kempton, WOODCOTE PLACE looks poised to get his head in front after missing out for two years. He finished with some purpose on the outside of his field and would probably have beaten Ethaara in another couple of strides.

It was only a seller that NCHIKE won at Thirsk but he never saw another rival and was well on top at the finish. His shrewd connections were keen to keep him at the subsequent auction which suggests they think he can win again in similar company.

While KNOW NO FEAR beat only three home in a Doncaster sprint, it doesn't tell the whole story. He was continually denied a clear run after missing the break and would have been a lot closer with any luck in running.
