Valued sponsor for Ladies Day

NEWCASTLE Racecourse’s second great summer meeting has attracted a high-profile sponsor, promising to make it a record-breaking event. Barclays Commercial is to sponsor the Beeswing Ladies Day, which takes place on Saturday, July 26 and is expected to attract 18,000 visitors, an all-time high – up from last year’s 15,000.

The day is named after a famous horse, a favourite among North East race-goers in 1830s. Her offspring and descendants produced at stud nine Derby winners, plus eight Oaks and 11 St Leger victors.

Steve Walton, corporate director for Barclays Commercial, said: “Ladies Day is an important event in the North East social calendar and I know that many of our guests are looking forward to a special day out – meeting new acquaintances and judging the form.”

The Barclays Commercial Beeswing Ladies Day is one of the most glamorous events in the North East’s racing calendar, when traditionally race-goers dress to impress.

And those ladies who most impress expert judges with their turn-out stand to win some fantastic prizes. Marks & Spencer will have scouts out and about around the course to select the 10 best-dressed ladies.

These 10 will then parade before a panel of judges from the famous department store group, who will select the best-dressed lady. The winner will be awarded a magnificent prize and the nine-runners up will also receive gifts. Other lady race-goers need not go away empty-handed, as Marks & Spencer will also be hand out 3,000 goodie bags.

Mark Spincer, executive director of Newcastle Racecourse, said: “We welcome our new partnership with Barclays Commercial Bank and look forward to working with them. The Barclays Commercial Beeswing Ladies Day promises to be a great day out and we still have tickets and hospitality packages available.

“We are also offering a half season ticket at £80, which includes this meeting along with the seven other remaining fixtures in the Flat racing season.”
