TRAIN operator National Express is the new sponsor of Newcastle Racecourse’s Seaton Delaval Trophy Day.
The opening day of The John Smith’s Northumberland Plate Festival, The National Express Seaton Delaval Trophy Day held yesterday represents just part of the rail operator’s support for racing.
Geoff Nicholls, product manager for leisure travel at National Express, said: “We only began running services on the East Coast Main Line late last year but recognise that racing is an important market for us.
“Newcastle is just one of the leading North of England and Scottish racecourses served by our route and we are delighted to be sponsoring racing at Musselburgh near Edinburgh, York and Doncaster this flat racing season.’’
Newcastle Racecourse executive director Mark Spincer said: “We are delighted that National Express is sponsoring The Seaton Delaval Trophy Day.
“It is particularly fitting that a train operator should be associated with the racecourse as Charles Brandling, after whom Brandling House was named, had one of the first railways built in 1758.’’
