BRISCOE Place followed a recent Easingwold success by outclassing his rivals in the Cumberland Ladies Open at Aspatria on Saturday.
Sent on at the fourth by Claire Metcalfe, the eight-year-old kept up a relentless gallop on the final circuit and was well clear when Foodbroker Founder unseated three out. He won four times under Rules for Jonjo O’Neill before changing hands for 10,500gns at Doncaster Sales last December and now carries the colours of Alec Dawson who runs his own plant hire business.
Hartburn extended her unbeaten sequence to seven with a 25-length victory over Seafire Lad in the three runner Men’s Open. Her next target is the three and a half mile John Corbet Champion Novices Hunter Chase at Stratford on May 23.
Wigton permit holder Fergus Jestin saddled the winner of the Members’ Race for the first time as his home-bred mare, Hapthor, quickened clear from two out to beat Tomopolly by a dozen lengths in the hands of Matthew Garnett.
Jimmy and Frank Walton’s home-bred gelding Jupiter Jo is at his best on a sound surface and so, with conditions in his favour for the first time this season, the 12-year-old came up trumps at 14-1 in the NPPA Club Member’s Race.
After cruising up to the leaders four out, Catherine Walton sent her charge on approaching the last before drawing clear to score by five lengths in the best time of the day.
Jonathan Bewley extended his lead over Jack Wallace in the Novice Riders’ Championship to five points with a third winner of the season on Bromley Abbey in the first Maiden Race.
Chatton farmer Roger Green lifted his career tally to 50 with a double on Limogos and Anshan Spirit in yesterday’s Lauderdale fixture at Mosshouses.
Limogos had been struggling to see out the three mile trip on softer ground but appreciated the better going and, after being sent on at the seventh, never looked like being caught.
This was a long overdue first winner of the season for owner, Jack Clark, MD of Livestock Auctioneers, John Swan Limited.
Anshan Spirit brought up Green’s half century with a 15-length success over Gangsters R Us in the Men’s Open.
What A Night returned to form in the NPPA Club Members’ Race. He made all the running under Luke Morgan and held off Batchelor Boys to score by a length.
Stable companions, Overnight and Lord Who, won at Corbridge and Hexham respectively in the last three weeks.
