Sanchi scores for Godolphin

Sanchi gave Godolphin their second winner from as many runners at Southwell when making a belated seasonal reappearance in the betfair.com Handicap.

Saeed bin Suroor's only previous representative at the Nottinghamshire track was the successful Safsoof just over two years ago, and Sanchi bridged the gap with a bold show under Kerrin McEvoy.

Off the track since disappointing at Doncaster last October, the lightly-raced four-year-old was anchored at the back of the field and still had his work cut out entering the straight in the 11-furlong heat. McEvoy knew he had plenty of horse left though, and after pulling the 7-1 chance out for a run, the colt swept past all of his rivals to win - going away by a length and three-quarters from the 100-30 favourite St Savarin.

Top weight Go Solo ran a solid race in his bid for a hat-trick and finished a length and a half away in third.

Aeroplane ironed out some of the dents in his reputation when flying home in the Read Hunt Insurance Policy Conditions Stakes.
