Dinsdale Spa's Callum Tarren continued his remarkable progress with a stunning win in the Durham County Match Play Championship at Seaton Carew. The youngster beat county stalwart Graeme Marchbank 3&2 in a superb final on the links lay-out near Hartlepool.
Tarren had beaten Martin Ellis (South Shields) at the 19th hole in the semis while Marchbank (Durham City) had defeated Michael Curry (Brancepeth Castle) 5&4.
Meanwhile, Gerry Jones of Durham City has won the Durham County Seniors Championship, which was played at South Moor Golf Club.
Gerry carded a 73, the same score as Brancepeth Castle's Michael Baker, but won on countback. Third-place went to David Olaman (Castle Eden) with a 74.

Category 4 (nett) Aged 70+: 1st, R.W. Green (Brancepeth Castle) 71; 2nd, W.J. Lee (South Moor) 73.
Hartlepool's Ruth Lindley produced an excellent display at the Senior Women's English Strokeplay Championship at the tough tree-lined Beau Desert golf course in Staffordshire. Lindley finished in 9th place on 249 after firing rounds of 84, 85 and 80.
Also taking part in the main championship were Chester-le-Street's Barbara Cheetham and Dinsdale Spa's Aileen Carter.
Bedale's Sue Mayman competed in Division B and also achieved a top ten finish after rounds of 84, 93 and 99.
North East golfers can help put a smile on the faces of some of the region's most in need youngsters this month. North East-based charity Raise A Smile, which is a joint initiative between the Children's Foundation and leading regional arts development company TIN Arts, is staging a golf day at Close House Hotel and Golf Club near Newcastle on September 25th. Entry costs £240 per team, though there is only space for 18 teams, and the day includes bacon roll and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf, a two-course lunch and there are team prizes together with longest drive and nearest the pin.
