Rain stops play
Oct 9 2008 by Golf North East
TEAMS representing the North, South, Midlands and Scotland took part in the Veteran Ladies Jamboree held at Southerness Golf Club but play was abandoned on the third day as a result of heavy rain during the first two days when foursomes matches were played in the morning and singles in the afternoon.
On the first day the North lost 6-3 to the Midlands and Scotland won their match 6-3 against the South. On the second day Scotland again won their match against the Midlands 8-1 and the Northern team battled back to beat the South by 61/2-21/2.
On the third day the North against Scotland match was vital for the Northern team as both teams had the same number of wins.
However, all matches were abandoned and Scotland were declared the winners on count back of matches won with 14 points. The North were runners-up with 91/2 points.
The Jamboree in 2009 will be held in Bath from 3-6 August.
In the inter-county competition for the Richardson Trophy, Yorkshire were very close runners-up to Lancashire. Yorkshire had wins over Cheshire 6-1, Lancashire 4-3 and Cumbria 41/2-21/2 and lost to both Northumberland and Durham.
As Lancashire and Yorkshire had an equal number of points and the same amount of individual games the tie was resolved by aggregating the number of holes played in the individual games won and the team with the fewest number of holes played to be declared the winner.
Yorkshire played and won 302 holes and Lancashire played and won 290 and were therefore declared the winners of the Richardson Trophy.
