Top Honour For Hunley

BUDDING Tees Valley golfer Robert Hillier has scored a major success at the 2009 National Skills Challenge Final at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire. Robert was one of several youngsters from Ingleby Barwick Golf Academy to enjoy success at the regional stage of the National Skills Challenge, an event staged by the GetIntoGolf initative that is run by the EGU and EWGA.

After finishing as joint runner-up in the Rookie 8 Years and ~under category at the regional event at Malton and Norton GC near York, Robert earned his place at the national final.

He linked up with talented youngsters, aged between 6 and 17 years old, at the EGU HQ at Woodhall Spa for the big final, which featured 10 fun coaching activities based on putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play and the long game.

The players received coaching from Alison Johns and Scott Emery, Woodhall Spa PGA professionals, developing both their short and long game skills and to finalise the activities, Dean Davis (Hinksey Heights Golf Club) performed an entertaining trick shot show with several competitors, challenge organisers and parents taking part.

Robert finished in overall second place in the rookie section.
