Third Time Lucky!

SEAHAM Golf Club has had a long time to wait but their team turned on the style to win the Clark Cup for the first time in their history. Having won through to the final on two previous occasions, Seaham were defeated both times by Bishop Auckland.
And finding themselves up against the same club in this year's final, the team pulled out all the stops to take the title 3-2 and make it third time lucky.
Clearly delighted with his team's performance, captain Paul Price said: "Throughout the competition all the players played their part and a special mention has to go to Dave Patterson who played in every round and won all his games."
In the preliminary round played at Eaglescliffe Golf Club, Alan Plant and Mark Witten played for the first time and with Dave securing victory at the 19th hole, Seaham won 3-2.
The team were then drawn to play away at Seaton Carew and with Gareth Williamson withstanding the pressure to win at the 19th, they won that match 3-1.
In the second round, Seaham had a home game against George Washington and even the weather couldn't halt their progress in the competition. Played in between curtains of fog, wind and rain, Seaham's players all performed brilliantly to secure a 4-1 victory.
The third round was proof if any were needed of how to grind out a win against a very determined Ravensworth team. In another home game, the Seaham players had to battle to the bitter end to win that match 3-2.
Paul added: "The semi-final was played at Boldon Golf Club against Brancepeth and with swine flu grounding Sam Pearson, Spencer Craig was recalled to the team to find his opponent was Michael Curry - Durham's No 1!
