Steve Bowls Them Over

ENGLAND Cricket legend Steve Harmison has held his Inaugural charity golf day at Longhirst Golf club near Morpeth. Nineteen teams braved the rain in the shotgun start in aid of the Bubble Foundation, a children's charity based at Newcastle General Hospital.

Steve said: "It's a great charity which has close links with my family and we are delighted to do what we can to help them. We hope this will become an annual event raising many thousands for the children.

"I've got to thank the many celebrities who have turned out to support us."

Cricket stars including Graham Onions, Philip Mustard, Liam Plunkett and Durham stalwart Neil Killeen played alongside Paul Bracewell, Nigel Pearson and Kenny Wharton from the football fraternity.

The winning team was Ian Turner with their celebrity Liam Plunkett coming away with the celeb trophy.

The event, held at Steve's home course at Longhirst Hall, was compared by Roger Tames, who helped to raise more money with superb sporting items in the celebrity auction.

Davidsons of Morpeth were sponsors of the event, supplying a brand new Corsa for a hole in one on the 16th.

Harmison added: "I'd like to thank the staff at the golf club for their great enthusiasm for the event, and helping to get it going. This event will go from strength to strength and I look forward to many more events in the future."
