Sharpley Heralds In A New Dawn

AFTER much anticipation from North East players, the fast rolling immaculate greens at the newly Sharpley golf course near Seaham are open. Simon Weightman's dream is now a reality and the course is already receiving praise from both local and regional golfers - a group of players from Australia who recently visited the region were highly complimentary of the course.

A combination of a hard working dedicated team and creative genius in course design, has given rise to a lay-out that just keeps the players coming back for more and leaving with a great feeling of accomplishment.

Simon said: "The response has been tremendous with the greatest compliment being that there are now many familiar, regular founder players, returning week-in week-out."

The course is the result of extensive research and Simon added: "We have investigated some of the best courses in Europe with a view to providing a global feel to this layout. And with development plans to be implemented over the next five years, Sharpley Golf will give East Durham a new leisure destination for visitors to the North East.

"The winter at Sharpley will not be bleak, as the course boasts a drainage system second to none and will be playable all year round. Our head green keeper Richard Hood has the course looking immaculate and the greens are not only a pleasure to play, they are both undulating and testing."

As yet, Sharpley does not have any clubhouse facilities but plans are in place to add these in the New Year.

They do have some fantastic temporary facilities such as the lakeside cabin built from the stern of a boat into the hillside and commanding lovely views across the water.
