Girls Get In The Swing - The 19th Hole With Allan Boughey

Young girls have enjoyed some golfing fun in the Easter holidays thanks to Northumberland Ladies County Golf Association.

Some 28 junior girls turned out on a very wet, cold day to play in the junior Flag Day, which was once again held at The Gubeon on Monday, April 7th.

The NLCGA Junior Organiser, Doreen Swinburne, organised the event.

The girls were willing to go out and give it a go. However, as conditions deteriorated, the girls had to come in off the course.

Doreen then organised target golf, chipping into a net and a longest drive.

Great fun was had by all, especially when they were having their lunch and being presented with prizes. Congratulations go to the junior captain Alyssa Balding and her vice-captain Amanda Pattison, who helped encourage and organise the juniors.

Parklands Golf Club was the venue for the junior Texas Scramble two days later.

Twelve teams of three went out to play. The teams consisted of one adult, one junior with a handicap and one junior without a handicap. The weather was so much better on Wednesday, which was a blessing when one group lost their way on the course - though they were found.

The organisers said it was good to see the varying levels of golf being played, and great to see county player Kim McKenna winning with her daughter and her friend.

The NLCGA would like to thank Doeen Swinburne and co-helper Liz Barnett.
