Golfathon gets into the swing

A GOLFATHON, a new event for youngsters under 16 lasting 10 hours, is being staged during the schools’ half-term break.

Hosted by the Parklands cub in Gosforth on Wednesday, February 17, this is an opportunity for the region’s young golfers to have fun, compete and improve their technique with the help of a PGA professional ,and meet other juniors.

One of the organisers, Northumberland county official Ann Potts, said: “Boys or girls of any standard can come along as long as they have golf clubs to use.

“They do not need to have a handicap or belong to a club, although this is not suitable for complete beginners.

“There will be a nine-hole tournament, chipping, putting and fitness exercises and parents are welcome to join in.

“The Golfathon will start at 9am and finish at 7pm.

“If parents don’t know where Parklands is, it is not difficult to find as it is next door to Newcastle racecourse.”
