Fantastic victory for Magpies followers

NEWCASTLE United fans and Slaley Hall members Wayne Feeney and Neal Cavanagh saw off supporters of 13 other football clubs to win the inaugural pro:fantastic Golf Challenge at the Portuguese resort of Oceanico Amendoeira.

The event gives football fans the opportunity to battle it out head to head in their team’s colours and play with their heroes in a Sky Sports televised final.

Scratch golfer Feeney and his partner Cavanagh, who plays off 18, scored 67 stableford points to win by two from nearest rivals Arsenal.

Fourteen pairs of fans from Arsenal, Bolton, Celtic, Chelsea, Hamilton Academicals, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Motherwell, Newcastle, Rangers, Sunderland, Spurs and West Ham qualified for the final.

And while Newcastle may not currently enjoy Premier League status, their pair proved more than good enough to hold off the fans from the top clubs, with Liverpool trailing in third, Spurs fourth, Chelsea sixth and Manchester United 10th.

All of the teams were led by a legend from the club’s past – including Teddy Sheringham, Mark Falco, John Aldridge and Frank McAvennie.

Feeney and Cavanagh were joined by former United striker Joe Allon, who scored 112 goals in a career which also took in Chelsea, Hartlepool, Swansea, Port Vale and Brentford.
