DURHAM County won their North East derby match against Northumberland 5-4 on the last day of Ladies' County Match Week, condemning their rivals to an unwanted hat-trick.
It was the third year running Northumberland not only finished bottom, but also did so with no points, failing to secure half a point for a halved match against any other county.
The heroine of Durham's derby victory was South Moor's Rebecca McGinley, the county junior strokeplay champion, who landed a startling 7&5 win over Whitley Bay's Julie Ross, seven times Northumberland ladies champion.
The big hitting McGinley was three under par for her round at the Heswall club on Merseyside and reeled off three birdies in a row at four, five and six. At the 176-yard fourth she used a pitching wedge off the tee and struck it downwind to three feet.
