Challenge to equal record
Jun 30 2009 by Tim Taylor, The Journal
THE ultimate challenge has been handed out by Slaley Hall to all the 2009 club champions in Northumberland and County Durham following the success of the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship.
Equal the Hunting Course record of 63 in The Journal Champion of Champions on Sunday, September 6 and you will win a free year’s membership for the Ryder Cup year of 2010.
The record is held by Australian Tour pro Richard Green.
And Keith Pickard, director of golf and leisure, said: “Now that the Seniors is over for another year, we have already held the first planning meeting for next season’s event.
“But that is a long way off and we have noted that The Journal, and their sister paper, the Sunday Sun, are going to keep Slaley Hall in the public eye by writing about all the golfers who win their club championships and all the others who qualify for The Champions.
“That is a big commitment on the part of the newspapers concerned and we have decided this is the best way to recognise that effort.
“Anybody who equals Richard’s record will get free annual membership in Ryder Cup year with full playing rights seven days a week.
