Rebecca scores in fashion stakes

NEWLY-CROWNED Durham Girls Champion Rebecca McGinley has also scored a victory in the fashion stakes.

This is how the 18-year-old McGinley looked at Chester-le-Street, where she was beaten by Pauline Dobson for the second year running in the all-South Moor pairing of the Durham Ladies’ final. McGinley was wearing what she described as “dress pants”, although golf fashion expert Anne Scott said: “I would call them more tailored trousers, but they look good with her fitted polo shirt and capped sleeves.”

Scott is the owner of Anne Scott Sport and Leisurewear, based at Tynedale Golf Club in Hexham, the new sponsor of The Journal Ladies Trophy. She said: “Lots of golfers of all ages are doing smart casual well and Rebecca is doing her bit for the image of the sport. Rebecca can play a bit as well, because she got to the quarter-finals of the English Girls at Durham City last season and to have reached two county ladies’ finals at her age is excellent progress.”

Durham City will stage another showpiece on July 6, with a challenge match between The Journal Dream Team and the North Durham Union.

The Dream Team are halfway towards a “League Slam”. They beat the Hadrian League at Hexham last year and the Newcastle and District League at Prudhoe in 2007. Following the NDU fixture, the North Northumberland League are next up in 2010.
