Dr John's Golf Clinic

THE Pro-Am season has just got under way , so I play with a lot of amateurs of different levels.

At this time of year, it starts to really hit home how the striking of the golf ball isn’t what necessarily makes someone a good golfer.

Many high handicappers hit the ball as well as low to mid handicappers, but they manage their game very poorly.

The better golfers always seem to make the correct decisions on shot and club selection because they know their game inside out and realise their strengths and weaknesses. In previous columns we talked about analysing your game.

And, if you’ve done that, you should know where and when to hit the correct clubs.

Get some advice and practice your weaknesses, but always play to your strengths as this will really improve your decision making.

Taking on a shot that has a one in five chance of coming off is not a good decision.

Remember there is always more than one option. Analyse your game and decision making will come easily.
