Junior Flag Day planned

NORTHUMBERLAND girls – and their mums – who want to have a go at golf should contact the county junior organiser, Liz Barnett, by emailing liz.barnett@btinternet.com or by leaving a message on (01661) 825634.

Barnett said: “I shall point the girls in the direction of the right place to go to for them, depending on where they live. Their mums are welcome to go along with them and in many cases to have a go at the sport as well. You don’t have to know someone who already plays to get into golf. We’re having our annual Junior Flag Day at Rothbury on Tuesday, May 26 for girls who are just starting. Last year we had 28 girls accompanied by an adult and we finished the day with the presentation of prizes for the best scores in age groups and a small token for all participants.

“There will be other Flag Days in the summer holidays. To enter, girls should ask an adult to contact me. We now have beginners aged from under eight to 17. Many local clubs and a lot of our schools are running taster sessions and I’m hoping these will encourage girls of all ages. We have an excellent development and coaching programme.”
