John Kennedy back in County line-up

FORMER Durham County captain John Kennedy is back in the side after a five-year absence against the Teesside Union at Garesfield on Sunday.
Kennedy, 40 next month, who has won both the county strokeplay and matchplay titles, landed top 10 places in all four county events he played last season.
A compliance consultant with the Automobile Association, Kennedy lives in Ebchester and is a member of the Consett club.
He is targeting the 10 Green Jacket tournaments which make up the ZFL Golf Order of Merit, the North East rankings series back after a ten-year gap.
Kennedy said: “It is fantastic news about the Order of Merit.
“We are back to the good old days when so many top amateurs entered these events, the atmosphere was electric every time you played.”
SEAHOUSES have appointed Alan Patterson, a former Burgham Park captain and Bamburgh Castle secretary, to succeed Angela Clough as secretary.
The 59-year-old Patterson is a North Northumberland publican’s son with a career background in corporate banking.
An ex-league cricketer with Alnwick and Morpeth, he has just “endured” a two-year spell as a book-keeper.
“Those two years were a pretty lonely business existence,” he said.
“I missed the people atmosphere of a golf club and everything that goes with it and I’m glad to be back.”
MAGDALENE Fields raised £200 for Cancer Research and The British Heart Foundation from the first half of their Ryder Cup-style “England v Scotland” match.
But after the foursomes and fourballs, Fields and Goswick are trailing 7½-10½ to Eyemouth and The Hirsel , where the singles will be played across the border on October 10.
WEARSIDE have four open tournaments coming up – a Ladies fourball betterball, May 28 (£12 per couple); a Mixed Open, July 6 (£15 per couple); their first Seniors Mixed Open, August 6 (£14 per couple) and a Ladies Team Open, September 17 (£36 per team of four).
