McIntosh in form to win trophy

FORMER beauty queen Pat McIntosh plays in The Journal Trophy final at Gosforth Park Ladies Club on Monday as the lowest handicapper in the 12-woman field.

A former Tyneside schoolgirl who won the Miss Great Britain title as Pat Morgan in 1978, McIntosh has made big strides in golf since her first full season in 2000.

Her handicap has tumbled from 44 to four and this season she won the Tyneside club championship for the second year in a row.

With Tyneside partner Karen Lee, McIntosh has also won the County Durham Foursomes in both seasons.

Like her husband, Mike, McIntosh is a member of the Tyneside and Goswick clubs. South-African born, her family moved to Tyneside when she was 12 and she went to Marden High School in Cullercoats.

Keen on swimming, hockey and netball as a youngster, McIntosh left school at 16 to launch a modelling career before running the Pat Morgan Agency in Jesmond.

“I really enjoy playing in The Journal event,” she said.

“I enjoy the cut and thrust of having to battle your way through two qualifying stages at club and county level to get through to the final.

“And it gives you the chance to play different courses.”

First prize for Monday’s winner in an event sponsored by Golfing Holidays – formerly 1st Tee – is an overnight stay for two at De Vere Slaley Hall inclusive of breakfast, dinner, a round of golf and a spa treatment per person.

Second prize is a £100 Golfing Holidays voucher.

The 12 finalists are made up of the six golfers who came through from this year’s County Durham and Northumberland qualifying venues of Consett and Westerhope.
