Switch eases schedule

YESTERDAY’S Champions postponement was good news for somebody, Golftext, who brought a much-appreciated touch of class to the event last year.

Regularly hired by the PGA at international, national and regional levels, Golftext are again providing The Champions leaderboard.

The switch from the original date this Sunday took some of the heat out of a hectic schedule that had been facing Paul Clark, the events director of the Ryton-based company. On Monday, globe-trotting Clark is flying out to the Algarve for the five-day Portugal Nations Cup at Vale do Lobo. That is the day after what would have been the usual lengthy dismantling exercise of the leaderboard at Slaley after The Champions in the late evening following the 36-hole event.

In the week following the Portugal tournament, Golftext will be providing the leaderboard at a Europro Tour event, the Ladbrokes Masters, at La Cala in Southern Spain.

“It was going to be pretty frantic on Sunday evening and Monday morning,” said Clark. “But this gives us a bit of a welcome breathing space. We’ll be at Slaley in March, looking forward to a great occasion.”
