Golfers turned out in force to ensure a regional charity event proved a big hit. Twelve teams contested the fourth annual Making a Difference Golf Challenge at Teesside Golf Club - the event having to be rescheduled after the original date was washed out.

It proved another big success for the organisers, the Middesbrough Evening Gazette newspaper, with £3,000 being raised for worthy Teesside causes.

Evening Gazette editor Darren Thwaites said: "It was another fantastic day and we'd like to pay tribute to the teams who took part as well as Teesside Golf Club for hosting what was a superb event.

"It is tremendous to see the local business and golf communities supporting Making a Difference in this way."

The Gazette launched Making a Difference three years ago with the aim of recognising and supporting those in need in the Teesside area. Any worthy cause can apply for a grant through the Tees Valley Community Foundation.

The four-man team stableford competition was won by the 3G Tooling team with 91 points (M. Walker, P. Ward, A. Westwood & C. Chappell).

Runners-up were Erimus Housing with 87 points (J. Dryden, M. Shaw, B. Horigan, T. Picken) while Aker Kvearner were third with 87 points (G. Hill, G. Cotts, R. Sowley, S. Allison).
