North East golfer Faye Sanderson has led the England girls' team to victory in the Home Internationals. England swept to victory in the annual competition when they beat Ireland 6-2 at Fairhaven in Lancashire.

This was England's eighth victory in ten years and they retained the Stroyan Cup with a 100% record through three days' play.

They conceded just 4 points throughout the series and scored 22 pts - Ireland winning 11 pts, Scotland 10 and Wales 9.

England team captain Faye, a member at Heworth golf Club on Tyneside, said afterwards: "The girls were absolutely brilliant, amazing - I couldn't ask for more.

"It's been a fantastic week and a great team performance - they have hardly dropped a point all week."

Ireland, the European champions, held England to a draw in the foursomes but they managed to take only one point in the singles.

England, the defending champions, had swept Wales aside 8-1 on the first day of the event.

England then put in another tip-top performance to beat Scotland 8-1.

Faye added: "It was a very good day against Wales and they all did really well.

"Against Scotland, the girls were just awesome: it was the most fantastic day. They all worked really hard and the standard of golf was absolutely brilliant."

The entire team of eight played during the week. They were: Kelly Tidy (Royal Birkdale), Heidi Baek (Felixstowe Ferry), Hannah Turland (Tidworth Garrison), Alex Peters (Notts Ladies), Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa), Laura Taylor (Woburn), Nikki Foster (Pleasington) and Hayley Davis (Ferndown).
