Greg Southwick, a 17-year-old member at Houghton-le-Spring Golf Club, has not only won his club's junior championship for the third consecutive year, but has achieved the double by winning this year's senior club championship too. Last year's senior championship was a play-off between John Ellison Junior and Greg, resulting in John taking the title.
This year's championship produced was a repeat final, with the same two players having scores of 77 and 71 in the championship race and another 18-hole play off.
This year Greg came up trumps in the play-off, scoring a 2 under par 70, four shots better than John's 74.
Greg now has the honour of being the club's youngest champion since Frederick George Harland won it in 1913 as a 20-year old.
Greg has been a member at Houghton since he joined at the age of nine in 2002. As a diminutive 10-year old, his first success in the club's junior competitions was against a young giant by the name of Craig White in the Little Trophy.
